About Maria Canals Association

The Maria Canals Association (www.mariacanals.org) is a non-profit organization declared of public utility that aims to promote young piano talents from all over the world and to foster universal musical practice. Each year, it organizes the prestigious Maria Canals International Music Competition of Barcelona at the Palau de la Música Catalana, founded in 1954 by the pianist and pedagogue Maria Canals and her husband Rossend Llates, with the support of the civil society of Barcelona and Catalonia.

Throughout the year, it also promotes the OFF Competition, an informative, educational, social, and integrative program, with hundreds of activities aimed at encouraging musical practice among vulnerable groups, students, and the general public. Through its program "Maria Canals causes a sensation", each year it places more than a hundred grand pianos in public spaces of the city and throughout the Spanish geography, and it has permanent pianos in hospitals and transport stations.
